- A tattoo is a form of body modification where a design is made by puncturing the skin with needles and injecting ink, dyes, and pigments into the deep layer of the skin. Tattoos are created with a small needle filled with ink. These needles penetrate both the epidermis, the outer most layer & the dermis, the inner layers of the skin. The dermis ayer contains blood vessels, hair follicles, glands, nerves & lymph vessels. When the needle penetrates your skin, it causes some damage to it. And where is damage in your body, there is WBC. These WBC or macrophages, try to remove the foreign particle or ink by engulfing them. This process continues until their belly is full. Even after this whole cleanup mechanism by the WBC, some of the ink is left behind. This ink gets soaked up by the dermal cells which are known as fibroblast. Both the Fibroblast & the Microphages remain suspended in the dermis.
